Outdoor Learning Area

The OLA
Our high school has a place called the Outdoor Learning Area (OLA) where students learn about the outdoors and taking care of the environment. It's a very beautiful area and they are really making it look nice out there. My son and I walked down the hiking trail last night. It was a very peaceful walk and I will be hiking on it alot more. I told him that students these days just don't know how good they have it. I would have loved to be able to do something like this way back in my high school days.

Here is the lake (swamp?) down at the OLA. There are places where a pipe has been placed so you can see the water coming out of the natural spring. One pipe is set up to be used like a drinking fountain.

This is a cool looking tree on the hiking trail. I'll have to take my camera with me on a sunny day hike and find more cool trees to take pictures of. I love trees!! I went to my mom's and gathered up a bunch of acorns, nuts and seeds from oak, black walnut, hickory, and mountain ash trees to try and get some started growing. I won't have the room here to plant too many of them but if I do get some good trees growing, maybe Mr. R~ the Bird Geek will let me plant them out at the OLA. That would be so cool if I could do that!!
