One Nation under who?

We were driving through a big city the other day and I happened to see an interesting billboard. It was all black with big white lettering that said, "One Nation Under Me- God." That's all it had on it. Why do all the religious fanatics keep saying this is a christian country? It wasn't always one nation under god. The original Pledge of Allegiance, written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, was ‘I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’ The phrase ‘under God’ was added to it in 1954 after the Knights of Columbus made a petition to Congress to have it changed to the way they were using it. Just because christians changed the Pledge of Allegiance into a form of public prayer, it does not mean that we live in a christian country. There are groups that claim our Founding Fathers were Christian, and there are also groups that say they were Deists and Unitarians. Who is correct? There is evidence of both sides in our history. Unless you lived at that time and knew them personally, there is no way of really knowing.

I was reading a fanatics website the other day, they were talking about how Halloween is the Devil's holiday and they should all gather together to stop people from celebrating it. They said the colors of Halloween- black, orange and red, are colors of the devil. WHAT?!?! Where in the world did they dig up that piece of garbage?? OK, if black is the color of the devil then why is it that priests, nuns, reverends and pastors all wear robes of BLACK?!? And I have seen many reverends and pastors wear red robes also! And what about the Catholic Cardinal?? He's ALWAYS wearing RED! Could it be the Lutherans are right?? I was at a Lutheran Bible Study and they were teaching that the Anti-christ isn't just one person/being, the Anti-christ will be the ENTIRE Catholic Religion as a whole!! Kinda makes ya wonder doesn't it??

Hercules the cat

He's so cute!! Posted by Picasa

This is my baby Hercules. He's my son's cat, but he has claimed me as his human. We got him for our son after Grandma died. She had given him a stuffed cat, and after she died our son wanted to get a real cat just like the one Grandma gave him. We looked all over and we finally found one with the same colors and markings. He was in a cage with 2 other kittens. When the store clerk reached in to get him, the other kittens growled, hissed and scratched at her. I was worried this one was going to be wild too. When she handed him to me, he started purring and rubbed his nose all over my chin. I told the guys "This is the kitty for us!".
And he truly is!!

What do you want on your tombstone?

cool tombstone Posted by Picasa

Would you like to know what your tombstone will look like? Once you're dead you won't get to see it. Here's a website that lets you put your name on a tombstone to see what it looks like. http://www.jjchandler.com/tombstone/
Have fun with it! If you don't want to put your name on it put the name of your boss or someone who really bugs you on it.....LOL!

A new ghoul in the house

OOOoooo.....scaaaary! Posted by Picasa

I made this ghoul today and hung it in my son's "Basement Lair". I was hoping to scare him with it, but he found it funny instead of scary. This close-up pic makes it look kinda dorky, like one of those little big head dolls. I hung it in a different spot to (hopefully) scare my hubby when he gets home from work.

I found the dress at the thrift shop for a buck and I had the mask from a couple years ago. Things are really getting rough around here. My supplies are pretty much gone and the Halloween fund is empty. I don't know what I'm going to do for props this year!!

What your favorite bird tells about you

Trying to attract crows to my yard Posted by Picasa

I get a newsletter from Care2 called Guidance for Body, Mind, Spirit. One of the newsletters had an article about what your favorite bird says about you. The article is inspired by a book written by Ted Andrews called Animal Speak.

My favorite bird is the crow. I have always loved crows and I have a couple crow decoys in my yard hoping to attract real ones.

You can see the whole article here, http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/bms/2260

Here is what it says about the meaning of the birds,

Crow - Intelligence, magic, mysticism, spiritual strength. Look for opportunities to be creative and bring forth the magic of life.

Dove - Peace, prophecy, maternal instinct. Mourn the past, but the promise of the future awaits you. Imagine what you could birth in your life.

Eagle - Spiritual and mystical power, illumination, healing, perception, creativity. Take on responsibility and embrace your healing and creative power.

Goose - Vision, imagination, loyalty. Your imagination may compel you to travel, either physically or in your mind.

Hawk - Visionary, protector, strength, power. Awaken your vision and embrace your creativity. Move dynamically toward your soul purpose.

Heron - Self-reliance, balance, ability to progress. You follow your own path and move powerfully toward opportunities.

Hummingbird - Joy, playfulness, sweetness, independence. You may accomplish the seemingly impossible, and can rejoice in the miracle of life.

Owl - Silent wisdom, magical mystery, clairvoyance, fearlessness. You can access your strength and power, your ability to “see in the dark” of even the most mysterious circumstances.

Songbird - Resourceful, adaptable, communicating freely and with beauty. Your cheerfulness and vitality are a source of joy to all around you.

Swan - Stately, graceful, sensitive, beautiful. Freely express the mysteries of poetry and song, awakening to the power and beauty within you.

Talking with Spirits

Talking with the Spirits Posted by Picasa

When I was around 12 or 13 years old I saved up my money and bought a Ouija Board from an ad in a Fate Magazine. My dad and I used it quite often. Many years later, after I started going to church with my husband, I got rid of my ouija board. I have regretted it ever since.

I have been looking all over for one, it used to be you could go into any store and there would be a stack of them along with all the other board games in the toy aisle. But for the past couple years or so they've been very hard to find unless you live near a store like Spencer's or an Occult store. I don't live near either and I don't order anything online anymore so I was pretty much out of luck for a while.

I finally found one in a store!! And it's Glow-in-the Dark!!

I'm hoping to have a chat with my dad. He died a few years ago and I miss him alot.

The Magic Broom Closet

I found this sign at Michael's Craft Store yesterday. I hung it up next to one of my big witches. They have some cool signs this year. They also had little jars with "witches brew" labels- Eye of Newt, Tongue of Frog & Wool of Bat. They were cool but I didn't get them.
They also had all of their Spooky Hollow Houses out. Very cool houses and accesories this year!! But they're so damn expensive!! I don't think I'll be getting any of them this year :-(

The Adventures of Jack & Jake.......

The Adventures of Jack & Jake..... Posted by Picasa

......will the adventure continue this summer? Or will they have to wait until next summer? Things aren't looking too good for them this year!! This has to be one of the busiest summers I've had in a long time. And the really sad thing is, this is the first summer in a looooong time that I haven't worked!! Maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe I'm so busy because I actually have time to do things that I wouldn't be able to do if I had a job?

But I am in DESPERATE need of some time away!! The wilderness is calling to me and if I don't answer that call soon I think I'll explode!!!

Tarot

The High Priestess Posted by Picasa

I love all the different varieties of Tarot cards. I found a great website that has many different kinds. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/list.shtml
I have The Tarot of the Witches deck and OSHO Zen Tarot. Eventually I want to get a few of the decks they have listed at Aeclectic Tarot, Especially the Halloween deck!! There is another Halloween deck but they don't have it listed, so I'll have to find that one somewhere else.

Here was one of my 4th of July decorations this year.

Strange white plants

Strange white plants I found in the woods. Posted by Picasa

These are some plants I found while walking around in the woods. They are a really bright white with bell-like tops. They didn't look like flowers. I have no idea what they are. I'm guessing it's some kind of fern??

Ant Lions

Ant Lion holes Posted by Picasa

Ant Lions are some of the coolest critters I've ever seen! These ones live on top of my mom's bluff. They live in the sand under the rock shelves. We scooped up a few to bring home with us in a plastic container. It was so cool watching them make their holes!! This Fall we will take them back up there and put 'em back where we found them. I thought taking care of them would be a good summertime project for my youngest son.
